The latest news and headlines from Man Utd after Erik ten Hag was appointed as the club’s new manager.
Here are your Manchester United morning headlines on Friday, April 22.
United favourite delivers Ten Hag message
Edwin van der Sar admitted Ajax wanted to keep hold of Erik ten Hag but couldn’t stop the manager from joining ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’. Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Ten Hag on a three-year deal with the option of a further year – and he will take over at Old Trafford this summer.
The 52-year-old has spent the last four-and-a-half seasons with the Eredivisie giants and he remains on course to win a third league crown this season, although their hopes of a double were ended by PSV Eindhoven in Sunday’s KNVB Cup showpiece.
Fred breaks dressing room silence on Ten Hag
United midfielder Fred is determined to prove himself under Ten Hag when the Dutchman moves into office at Old Trafford at the end of this season – but admits the appointment must be met with a genuine ambition to challenge for trophies.
The Manchester Evening News revealed last month that Ten Hag was United’s preferred candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a permanent basis. Now, after weeks of talks with Ajax, the two clubs have come to an agreement and Ten Hag has signed a three-year contract with the option of an additional year.
During an interview with Premier League Productions, Fred said: “It’s great news. He’s a world-class coach who will help us a lot here. I’ve watched Ajax play and they are a great team who play good football.”
